ABOUT BORDALEIRA DE ENTRE-DOURO-E-MINHO WOOL
Bordaleira de Entre-Douro-e-Minho wool surprises us by being a delicate wool, of medium thickness and length, with a satin sheen. Its locks have an unorganized undulation, but with defined and even curly tips.
It is a very versatile wool, which lends itself to being used both in garments to be worn closer to the body and in pieces that need a little more structure. In the felting process it has a medium/fast reduction capacity, forming a cohesive textile with a soft and fluffy touch,

ABOUT THE BORDALEIRA DE ENTRE-DOURO-E-MINHO BREED

The Bordaleira de Entre-Douro-e-Minho is a medium-sized animal whose main function is to produce meat. It is a rustic animal, with low maintenance costs and which adapts to adverse climatic conditions, making it interesting from an organic production perspective. After decades of decline, a survey of the characteristics, location and size of the existing herd began in the late 1990s by the Barrosã Breeders Association (AMIBA), leading to the creation of the breed genealogical book in 2002.

WHY DO WE SELL RAW WOOL?
Saber Fazer's marketing of raw wool has two main objectives:

#1: To value the wool from its source: the producer. We buy the wool above market value, valuing not only a quality raw material, but also the producers who are dedicated to their animals and take wool production into consideration.
Although the way we proceed is not yet the standard in Portugal, we want to set an example.

#2: To bring an absolutely excellent product to people who appreciate wool as much as we do! Wool that has been well selected by someone who spins and makes a living from textiles, impeccably sheared by a professional shearer, dehaired and stored to preserve its quality.
The term most often used to describe the wool we've selected is "delicious" and it usually elicits big sighs! If we could, we'd keep it all here in the atelier, but we like to share the pleasure of wool and make the best of Portuguese wool known.
