27th and 28th May 2023 / F of FELT II Masterclass with Ana Rita de Albuquerque - PRESENTIAL

“F de Feltro” is a Masterclass of artistic practices guided by Ana Rita de Albuquerque that will approach, through the creation of a piece with very specific characteristics, the whole experience of Felt Textile Sculpture in a synesthetic way.

The objective of this course is to provide participants not only with a set of techniques for creating textures, reliefs and compositions through the Felting technique with soap and water, but above all to teach how to develop an honest and coherent artistic practice with an individual journey in the universe of fibers and felt.

This workshop is based on learning how to create a piece with very specific characteristics, the “Medusa Flower”, created through hive construction, in which the piece is structured from smaller units that, as they are included and felted, create a three-dimensional alveolar set. The “Medusa Flower” is an exercise in geometry, inside and out, formed by units that are always compatible and constructive with each other, forming mosaics in numbers.

In this Masterclass we will work on the following skills and felting techniques with soap and water:

- Making of accurate layouts;
- Felt reduction calculations;
- Construction by layers;
- Technically and structurally controlled felting technique;
- Understanding and visualization strategies of 2D structures created to unfold in 3D
- Understanding the construction of compatible mosaics;
- Preparation and inclusion of cells;
- Techniques for cutting and transforming collapsed structures into three-dimensional structures;
- Technically and structurally controlled trampling technique;
- Final cuts and finishes for a smooth and regular surface;

Although this Masterclass aims to explore more advanced techniques and concepts, we believe that it can be performed by people with no experience in Felting with soap and water, since all concepts will be covered. The Masterclass includes the offer of our Felting Initiation Manual, as well as all the materials used.
